The british chancellor of the exchequer, philip hammond, yesterday announced a higher excise duty on new diesel vehicles and a tax increase for owners of diesel vehicles. The government expects the tax change to generate additional revenue totaling around 550 million pounds.
The latter applies to new cars registered from 1. April 2018. For them, up to 500 british pounds (today, one pound costs 1.1235 euros) are payable in addition in the first year of ownership. The tax is based on the level of co2 emissions, which is divided into eight classes in the uk.
